Private Pilot License (Airplane)

Objective and Concept

Nortávia ministers the Airplane Private Pilot Course, destined for those who seek just the pure pleasure of flight.

The course complies with the European regulations defined by Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA). The course has an approximate duration of 8 months and it takes place in the Vilar de Luz Airfield - Maia, with theoretical classes in an after-labor regime and flights at any day of the week, including weekends.

The candidate will start the course with a theoretical component where he/she will learn the aviation basics. In a second and more exciting phase, the student pilot will follow the flight program to learn to fly safely and initiate the aeronautical life that has always dreamt with.

After obtaining the pilot license, the pilot will be able to rent airplanes for all his/her leisure flights in our company or in any aero club.

Course Plan

Theoretical Component: The classes are usually ministered in our facilities at the Vilar de Luz Airfield, with 3 classrooms with capacity for 20 students each, equipped with air-conditioning, integrated communications training system, didactic and informatics material with video-projector.

The 220 hours of theory classes last around 6 months, from Monday to Friday between 20:30 and 23:40 (special cases may be considered).

The subjects are taught in 2 separate parts with an exam at the end of each part. The theory exams take place at the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) in Lisbon.

There will be an individual exam for the Communications subject.

Practical Component: The classes are composed of a minimum of 45 flight hours in a Cessna 152 airplane. They take place at any day of the week in accordance with the student´s availability and in coordination with the school´s flight schedule.

Our facilities provide the necessary equipment to make the flight planning, to access the relevant aeronautical information required, to consult real-time meteorology, and the space for individual briefings with total privacy.

At the end of the course it is done a flight check to obtain the desired license.

Entry requirements

The minimum age is 17 years old at the date of the flight exam, thus the candidate may start the course with 16 years old.

The candidate must be the holder of at least a valid Class II Medical Certificate. The medical exams may be done at any of the approved facilities. For the commodity of our candidates we recommend the following:
