Multi-Engine Piston Rating (Airplane)

Objective and Conceptmulti

The Multi-Engine Piston Rating provides to the pilot the theory and practical knowledge to acquire the necessary proficiency to fly multi-engine airplanes in visual or instrument conditions.

The course has an approximate duration of 4 weeks, with 36 hours of theoretical classes and 10 flight hours.


Course Plan

Theoretical Component: The classes are usually ministered in our facilities at the Vilar de Luz Airfield, with 3 classrooms with capacity for 20 students each, equipped with air-conditioning, integrated communications training system, didactic and informatics material with video-projector.

The 36 hours of theory classes are given from Monday to Friday and include the following subjects:

Flight Planning
Performance
Mass and Balance
Principles of Flight

Practical Component: The classes are composed of a minimum of 8:30 (VFR) or 15:00 (IFR) flight hours in a Piper PA44T airplane. They take place at any day of the week in accordance with the student´s availability and in coordination with the school´s flight schedule.

Our facilities provide the necessary equipment to make the flight planning, to access the relevant aeronautical information required, to consult real-time meteorology, and the space for individual briefings with total privacy.

At the end of the course it is done a flight exam with the minimum duration of 01:30 (VFR) or 02:00 (IFR) to obtain the desired rating.


Entry requirements

The candidate must be the holder of at least a valid Private Pilot License, and a valid Instrument Rating if he/she desires to obtain the Multi-Engine/IFR Rating.

The candidate needs to be the holder of a valid Medical Certificate, Class I if the IFR module is desired.

The candidate needs to have 70 flight hours as Pilot-in-Command.
