The objective of the Airline Transport Pilot License Modular Course is to prepare the pilots to the level of theoretical knowledge required for the issuance of an ATPL(A), in accordance with the JAR-FCL 1.285 requirements (Joint Aviation Requirements - Flight Crew Licensing).

As an alternative to the presence course in Nortávia School´s facilities, the pilot that pretends to update his/her knowledge or convert the type of license may undertake the distance learning modular theory course, approved and developed with Bristol GS, our partner Flight School.


Course Plan

Theoretical Component: The pilot will be able to study through his own computer at his/her own pace, estimating an average of at least 6 months to complete the course, being the maximum period set at 18 months counting from the date when the first exam is done.

In addition to the distance classes, estimated in 537 hours (if the pilot doesn´t have any credits established by the Civil Aviation Authority), there will be 123 hours of presence classes for exam preparation.

The pilot must go through all the classes with success, reflected satisfactorily in the Progression Tests and in the presence classes´ exams, before being submitted to the exam of each subject in the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) in Lisbon.

The presence classes are usually ministered in our facilities at the Vilar de Luz Airfield, with 3 classrooms with capacity for 20 students each, equipped with air-conditioning, integrated communications training system, didactic and informatics material with video-projector.

Practical Component: The practical component depends on the previous experience of each candidate, being each case analyzed individually. Contact us for further information.


Entry Requirements

The candidate must be the holder of at least a valid Private Pilot License.

The candidates need to have finished the minimum schoolarity.

The candidates without any previous knowledge of Math and Physics (12th grade level) need to take a supplementary exam on these subjects. The candidates that completed the 12th grade on these areas are exempt from taking these exams.

Demonstrated written and spoken knowledge of the English Language.

The candidates need to be the holder of a valid Class I Medical Certificate. The medical exams may be done at any of the approved facilities. For the commodity of our candidates we recommend the following:
