Instrument Rating (Airplane)

Objective and Conceptira

The Airplane Instrument Rating provides to the pilot the theory and practical knowledge to acquire the necessary proficiency to fly airplanes in instrument meteorological conditions.

The course has an approximate duration of 4 months with theoretical classes in an after-labor regime and flights at any day of the week, including weekends.


Course Plan

Theoretical Component: The classes are usually ministered in our facilities at the Vilar de Luz Airfield, with 3 classrooms with capacity for 20 students each, equipped with air-conditioning, integrated communications training system, didactic and informatics material with video-projector.

The 340 hours of theory classes last around 3 months, from Monday to Friday between 17:20 and 24:00 and include the following subjects:

Air Law
Aircraft General Knowledge
Flight Planning
Human Performance
Meteorology
Radio Navigation
Operational Procedures
IFR Communications

To each subject corresponds an exam at the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) in Lisbon.

Practical Component: The classes are composed of a minimum of 50 flight hours in a Cessna 172 airplane. They take place at any day of the week in accordance with the student´s availability and in coordination with the school´s flight schedule.

Our facilities provide the necessary equipment to make the flight planning, to access the relevant aeronautical information required, to consult real-time meteorology, and the space for individual briefings with total privacy.

At the end of the course it is done a flight exam to obtain the desired rating.


Entry requirements

The candidate must be the holder of a valid Night Flight Rating and have at least 50 hours in navigation as Pilot-in-Command.

Demonstrated written and spoken knowledge of the English Language.

The candidates need to be the holder of a valid Class I Medical Certificate. The medical exams may be done at any of the approved facilities. For the commodity of our candidates we recommend the following:

Price

The price of the Instrument Rating varies in accordance with the type of aircraft in which the rating instruction is done, single-engine, multi-engine, or both.
